Manifesto
Embracing Dance as an Embodied Journey of Self-Discovery
As an artist and choreographer, my intention is to use dance as a powerful medium for expression, connection, and societal change. In the expansive world of movement, where words often fall short, I see dance as a universal language that transcends boundaries, allowing us to connect with the deepest parts of ourselves and with others. My goal is to create work that reflects the diverse and dynamic nature of the human experience, while also challenging the norms and expectations that define contemporary art and culture.
At the core of my artistic vision is the belief that dance is a journey of self-discovery and growth. It is a practice that evolves alongside us, mirroring our identities, experiences, and emotions. I believe that authentic embodiment—where people connect deeply with their own bodies—is the key to unlocking the transformative power of dance. This is not just about technique, but about honoring the autonomy and agency of every individual, allowing them to express themselves freely and fully.
I am committed to open-mindedness, both in my creative process and in the spaces I create for others. I strive to foster an environment where exploration, curiosity, and diversity are not only encouraged but celebrated. I believe that every person, regardless of their background, identity, or experience, has something valuable to contribute to the collective dance landscape. This belief drives my dedication to inclusivity, ensuring that my work and teaching reflect the richness of our diverse society.
Diversity and advocacy are central to my practice. I aim to challenge the existing paradigms within the arts by creating space for voices and bodies that have been historically marginalized. Through my work, I seek to advocate for a more inclusive and equitable arts community, where all people feel empowered to share their stories and perspectives. This is not just an artistic choice; it is a commitment to social change and a vision for a more just world.
As an instructor and artist, my role extends beyond the studio and the stage. I see myself as a facilitator of growth, both personal and communal. I encourage people to explore and improvise, to find their own unique path within the art form, and to use dance as a tool for self-expression, healing, and connection. I believe that through this practice, we can challenge societal norms, foster understanding, and create spaces where everyone belongs.
In this manifesto, I also critique the limitations of contemporary art and culture that often prioritize aesthetics over substance, and exclusion over inclusivity. I advocate for a shift in values—towards authenticity, diversity, and social impact. My work aims to counter the prevailing narratives that dominate the arts, offering instead a vision of dance that is accessible, transformative, and deeply connected to the world we live in.
Through dance, I strive to ignite change—within myself, within my community, and within the larger cultural landscape. This is not just a practice; it is a movement towards a future where art serves as a catalyst for freedom, revolution, and societal transformation.
